RIDE WITH THE KNOBBIES - 2019

Catabawa Meadows Park - Morganton, NC
September 13 -15 (635 miles)

Our route was 74 to Rockingham, 202 and 64 through Lexington and Mocksville to I-40.  We left home at 7am and arrived just before 2pm.  Good weather for the ride and setting up the tent.

What are we thinking ... tent under dead tree a week after Dorian😲

We have our own picnic table and the showers and bathroom are behind us!

Using our meal ticket  great BBQ and cheeseburgers.🍔

Nora and Omar arrived early evening with their truck and the bike in the back.  We already had dinner at the food wagon and waited while they set up their tent.

BIG storm coming!

Soon after the wind and thunder started and around 8pm heavy rain and tremendous lightening and thunder.  This was Nora's first camping rally and what an evening for her.  Through all that the tent did not leak!  When the rain let up somewhat we ran out to get a shower.  Our tent made it through the night and we woke up in a dry tent.

Saturday morning it was foggy and wet.  The food truck was cooking breakfast and the Knobbies were getting ready for their ride.  The 4 of us decided we would rather drive in Omar's truck to lunch at Little Switzerland.

Breakfast at the food truck.

Starting out for a foggy/wet "ride with the knobbies"  The day got better and they had a good ride.

The 2019 Knobbie t-shirts ... included in the rally fee!

No rain for the drive to Little Switzerland but lots of fog finally turning into a cloudy/partly sunny day..  We stopped at Brown Mountain covered in fog on the way to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

No view today!

Is that the Brown Mountain Light in the background?

Next stop Linville Falls on the Blue Ridge Parkway and a hike to the falls.

Then lunch at Little Switzerland Cafe (really good salads, ruben sandwich and homemade desserts).  Just before going back to the rally we stopped at Eurosport Asheville and sat on the F750GT that I will be riding in October on our MotoQuest vacation.  Tony also tried out the new R1250RT!

When we got back to the rally the weather was partly sunny and everything had dried out.  Sunday morning we left at 8:20 in dense fog on the way to I-40 through Morganton.  After a few miles on I-40 the fog cleared up and the rest of the ride was sunny🌞.  Our route home was 40 to 16 then 485 (Inner North towards Huntersville) to the Mint Hill exit and onto our favorite rode 218 ... but at mile marker 15 the rode was closed (they are putting in a roundabout) so we had a backwards loop to get to 74.   By the time we got home around 3pm it was 90 degrees!
