TWIN VALLEY RALLY - September 2014

Willville Motorcycle Camp - Meadows of Dan, Virginia
September 12 -14 (711 miles)

Dick, Tony and I stopping at the Marathon gas station and Poor Farmers Market just before arriving at the motorcycle camp to pick our camping spot and set up the tents.

One mile down Route 58 Business is Willville Motorcycle Camp.   The BMW club that hosts this rally is the Twin Valley Riders.  The rally fee is $45 which includes two dinners, two nights camping and of course door prizes, raffles and rides hosted by the club.  The rally is located around the Crooked Road - Virginia's Heritage Music Trail and at the camp pavilion Friday and Saturday night there is live music followed by a jam session.

An important consideration in camping is finding that elusive electric hookup ... along with bringing a power strip big enough for (in this case) three helmets.

Happy hour was at 5:30 with kegs of beer; dinner at 6:30 - grilled chicken, baked potatoes (and lots of butter and/or sour cream) and green beans.  Jerry rolled in after dinner.  By 7:30 the rain started but the band was great so we stayed at the pavillion until the band stopped at 10pm.  It rained all night but the rest of the weekend was dry.

Saturday morning the local VFW had breakfast for $6 which was amazing (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, quiche, hot cinnamon apples, coffee cake) all being prepared in the kitchen behind the serving line.
Members of Twin Valley Riders led us on a ride starting from the VFW.  Lots of winding roads, including the Blue Ridge which was socked in with heavy fog in a few places.   When we could finally see, the countryside was beautiful.

If you wonder where the term "socked in" comes from heregoes:  "the term was first recorded in 1944, Starting back in the early days of aviation when one would look at the windsock to determine the flying conditions. If you couldn't see accross the field to check the windsock, then you had no business taking off."

Saturday night's dinner was pulled pork which is slow cooked starting right after Friday night's dinner and "pulled" by hand by the club.  Their official name is IBRA (international butt rubbing association) and they do a lot of work for our dinner.
